First, remember to leave the workday behind you when you punch out. Don’t come home and dump your day’s problems on your partner or children, as they may have had a long day too!
If you have a pet, they are always happy to see you and sad to see you go, well, at least dogs! After exchanging greetings, I recommend taking a hot shower or at least freshening up and changing into something more comfortable. Prepare a hot meal, enjoy a cold drink of water, and play some music while you and your partner cook dinner together. If possible, take a walk in the park or around the neighborhood to enjoy the remains of the day.
If it’s the start of the weekend after a long, demanding week, go out with your partner to a restaurant or meet friends at a favorite watering hole to unwind. Take a long bike ride, hit the gym or pool, but don’t sit around sulking.
Point to Ponder: Some play guitar or piano and get lost in it to relax, while others enjoy being around loved ones or friends in a livelier atmosphere to unwind. While others seek calm, quiet moments to reflect and relax, that’s why they make different flavors of ice cream. My only advice was given by someone much more revered and wiser than I. He said, ” Leave tomorrow for tomorrow, as today has enough unto itself.” No matter how demanding or hard my day/week is, I reflect on His last day/week, and all of a sudden, mine seems ridiculous to even complain at all.
