The first thing that came to mind when I read this prompt was growing up in our living room; we had a stereo Hi-Fi. It was a piece of furniture made of mahogany, and within the cabinet were twin stereo speakers and a woofer. The closest thing to the sound today would be a Bose sound system. You opened the lid, and you could load 6 albums onto the spindle. And they had a 45-record sleeve that fitted over it; you could put a stack of 10.
My brothers and I would load up a selection of our records, or on Sundays, my parents would load up a selection of their favorites. Years later, my wife bought me a record player for Christmas. She said, “What will you play first from your record collection?” I said without hesitation, ” The Nat King Cole Christmas Album and the Christmas Song. The record dropped as the turntable started spinning, and the needle fell onto the record, making that wonderful, enhanced sound that only a record makes when played, adding to the symphony of music as it began. Music to my ears!
