Daily Prompt: What’s a movie or book that inspired you to travel? 7/21/26

John 3:16 – Be thankful, grateful, patient, charitable, kind, and smile, as it is infectious.  God Bless America; protect our president and Military!

American movies – Who could forget Easy Rider or Sideways, which highlighted a story around the California wine regions. At the top of my list would be The Quiet Man and Leap Year, as I want to see Ireland, a land embedded in both our ancestries.

Then we had Rain Man, Grand Canyon, or the Travel shows – Seeing the USA follows journalist Brandy Yanchyk. Travel Europe with Rick Steves, Road Trip Masters, Gordon Ramsey: Uncharted, and Sandra Brown PBS travel destinations.

For the record, for us, the Holy Land would be a trip of a lifetime if they ever stop shooting at each other in that part of the world.

On the Road (Jack Kerouac) follows Sal from New York across the country, and On the Road with Charles Kuralt follows Kuralt as he travels across small-town America, using Route 66 and other routes.

The Lord of the Rings and Moana make you long to see New Zealand and Fiji

On the Road with Rick Steves – Makes you want to spend 6 months experiencing the cultures, history, and people by traveling the paths and countries of Europe, as highlighted in his PBS videos, journals, and journeys.

Under the Tuscan Sun, Solo Mio, The Famous Mr. Ripley for Italian inspired movies.

French Kiss and the Londoner – French-inspired movies.

These are just some of the things that can and will inspire you, even if it is only in your imagination. However, I suggest going by car, train, plane, or boat, as they have some pretty unique river tours both here and abroad. If you can afford nothing else, drive and see this country, taking the beaten-path back roads, and you will find the people you meet are as interesting as the destination itself.

So, what movie or book has inspired you? Did you act on it?
