Daily Prompt: How do you use social media? 4/18/26

Be thankful, grateful, patient, charitable, kind, and don’t forget to smile, as it is infectious. God Bless America and Protect Our Military!!

Social Media today is relied on for so many things; it has become second nature to us for banking, shopping, gaming, using Waze for directions, using Wikipedia or Google for research, using ChatGPT, and using WhatsApp to interact with people.

Sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn allow us not only to stay in touch but also to promote and share our thoughts on almost every topic every day or to probe various job sites.

It seems every day you turn around, and there is a new website that has everyone talking. This is why we must be vigilant about how we receive and process information, as what you see is usually one-sided and controlled to sway public opinion. It’s a slippery slope and has also been exposed as being used for nefarious purposes.

It is the largest, most widely used platform for news, and it just makes you wonder who controls what you see and how it is worded. Behind every corporate conglomerate, there is money to be made and spent. Those with money like to control their interest and how they are viewed publicly.

Point to Ponder:. A new trend is parents getting table/wall phones so their children can talk to friends rather than text on a cell phone. Data show that social interaction has declined, especially among kids, since Covid19. Many parents are now opting not to allow their children to have cell phones until they are 13, and even then, limit their use to a predetermined daily time limit. Kids today need structure, boundaries, and limitations in this world of instant access to almost anything, which unfortunately includes the good, bad, and ugly sides of life. Our children are growing up way too fast in more ways than one. It is refreshing to see kids opting to put their phones down and once again out playing, riding bikes, and playing ball, to name a few.
