Daily Prompt: What are the biggest benefits of minimalist living? 5/14/26

Be thankful, grateful, patient, charitable, kind, and don’t forget to smile, as it is infectious. God Bless America and Protect Our President and Military

I am not sure if my answer to this is as much today as it was in my youth or in our early stages of marriage, when we were raising a family, and things were a little tighter financially.

Benefits – Saving money, ease of moving around the house, not leaving a headache for your kids or family someday, hone skills, and enjoy the free, simple things life has to offer.

Writing this reminds me of the series “Alone.” So, I am not suggesting that you go gather your 5lbs. of Pemmican, 5lds of dried beans or lentils, Bear Spray and bangers, along with the other following items , e.g., 12 x 12 tarp, sleeping bag, Survive GSO-5.1 knife, 25 piece with 300 yards of fishing line w/hooks, 6″ ferro rod, bow and arrows, paracord, 2-quart cast-iron pot with lid, Estwing Camp hatchet or Gransfors American Felling Ax, silky saw, trapping wire, Leatherman Multi-tool, canteen. Those things with proper clothing, a sustainable water source (lake, stream, shoreline), fire and food are all you really need to rough it as with the above you can make a life out in the wilderness for at least awhile.

These things can help you with the main ingredients to survive, and a book on foraging in the wild wouldn’t hurt, but neither would a 22 pistol or Winchester 22 with ammo, a Remington large caliber rifle for serious game, kerosene, and a lantern, for that matter!

  1. CLOTHING/ALL WEATHER OUTDOORSMAN BOOTS/SOCKS
  2. SHELTER
  3. WATER
  4. FOOD
  5. FIRE
  6. SURVIVAL GEAR (As listed above)
  7. The right frame of mind and know-how, with a DIY mentality, do help.
