Prompt: What traits make a good neighbor? 10/8/25

Good Morning! Have a Safe, Productive, and Fantastic Day

Respectful: To start, your neighbors should be genuinely friendly, unassuming, and respectful of both your property and their own, as well as your privacy and their time. Be mindful of not being overbearingly loud or making obtrusive noises late.

Friendly: Not in an overbearing way, but look out for each other, being mindful, and sharing neighborhood activities, both good and bad, but not in the manner of “Gladis Kravits”. Check in on each other, stay in touch, and help when and how you can in your own way. Share an abundance of fortune, e.g., a good harvest of fruit, vegetables, and the like.

Participate in the Community: Take part in or support neighborhood or street activities e.g., block parties, flea markets, games, garage sales, and the like. Be approachable, friendly, and a good communicator of shared interests.

Offer Assistance: Lend a hand, watch out for each other, collect mail or packages if asked while they are away, and provide a sense of security. Be dependable and check in on your laid-up, sick, or elderly neighbors. Offer a helping hand. Be dependable, trustworthy, and reliable, offering mutual support and shared understanding.

Point to Ponder: Kindness of a smile, a wave, a friendly greeting, offering a helping hand, extending a dinner invitation, or sharing a meal goes a long way in promoting good fellowship.

Dan, love reading your post every morning on the Next Door app. I’m about your age, grew up in Springfield & now live in Glen Mills. Your writing is very nostalgic & you give everyone a lot to think about. I’m also looking forward to reading your two books during the holidays. Marianne Morley
