~~~ Today is the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Let’s never forget the sacrifice of the innocent and first responders: ICE, Law Enforcement, firefighters, EMTs, and all first responders whose jobs are keeping us all safe and preventing the events of that day from happening again! ~~~
My best advice is to plan your travels well ahead of time. Use Trivago, Priceline, Expedia, Vrbo, Airbnb, as well as local bed-and-breakfasts, which we highly recommend. You cannot only get a great price that includes your meals, but they also know the lay of the land, things to see, and things to skip, as well as coupons for local attractions and even help with making arrangements, offering reasonable concierge services.
Don’t forget to budget for food, gas, attractions if driving, or airfares if flying. If flying, cheaper airfares are available if booked in advance; if going to a resort area, check for all-inclusive deals. Be sure to check baggage fees versus carry-on and weigh your options before booking. Pack for three to four days, with items that can be rotated for casual or dressy looks.
We also heard from those who travel often that you should pack undergarments and items you plan to replace and toss as you go to save money on baggage fees and return travel expenses, or to make room to store purchases or mementos for the trip home.
If abroad, use a money belt; make arrangements with a travel agency that will exchange your Euros or other currency at the going rate when you return home. Not all, but some will. Try to make friends and stay with a group, as there is safety in numbers, especially if using touring services. Also remember: When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Try to learn at least a few key words in the language of the places you’re traveling to, and for God’s sake, have fun exploring, sampling, buying, and enjoying yourself.
