The first book that came to mind was George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones, book 1. I think more than one person would agree that Ned Stark, the beloved figure, coming to an unexpected end at the hands of Joffrey Baratheon was shocking and almost made me lose my mind!
That being said, it set you up with one of the greatest twists and turns novels since J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings!
My second choice came almost as quickly, but I didn’t want to scare the children and nonbelievers in the Bible’s Book of Revelation, written by Saint John the Apostle. Unfortunately, this ending as dictated in the Bible isn’t an ending anyone can change.
It was documented from an historical account written by writers like, Tertullian that stated John was placed in a vat of boiling oil in Rome, and he miraculously survived. Emperor Domitian had him almost immediately exiled to the island of Patmos around 95 A.D.
It is written that God the Father gave the revelation to Jesus Christ, who then sent an angel to communicate and show the visions to John. John wrote the visions down, and it became known as the Book of Revelation. John penned his visions from a small limestone cave, often referred to today as the Holy Cave at Patmos, Greece.
