Well, this prompt will certainly have a theme, as my fictional character to have dinner with would be Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim, from A Christmas Carol. Why? There’s so much to learn from a man like him, and from his stature despite his many hardships both at work and at home. How he conducted himself in his 12-hour day under the constant scrutiny and threat of losing his position under Scrooge’s ever-watchful eyes.
He put up with things far beyond human understanding but still managed through it all with sacrifice and a smile, never letting it show to his wife or his children, as it wasn’t in his nature. He used it as a great teaching tool to teach his children how they should conduct themselves despite life’s challenges. Even to the point of toasting Mr. Scrooge as the founder of their holiday feast despite his wife’s objections.
I would love to hear Tiny Tim explain to his mother and his siblings how it gave him joy when people saw him in his lame condition, so that they might draw closer to God and be reminded of who made the lame walk, the deaf talk, and the like.
He, out of the whole family, was a mirror image in character and stature of what his father must’ve been like as a child. He loved to hear and tell stories and sing for the family a tune that even lightened their load. He never thought of his own or complained about his own disability but saw it more as a tool to help others struggling with their own day-to-day lives. It reminded them that things can always be worse, and your character speaks volumes in how you conduct yourself when things don’t necessarily go your way.
