Happiness is something we all work to obtain in all the different aspects of life – Family, Schools, Jobs, Career Choices, Spouses, Children, Sexual Orientation, and a host of other intangibles that psychologically affect your life. We all have heard that many comedians struggle with bipolar issues, personality disorders, introversion, extroversion, or those struggling to break away from alcohol or drug addiction issues. Most religious denominations have outreach programs, also for those who face the pain of having an abortion later on in life, and a host of other issues.
How you were raised, a family nucleus or broken or dysfunctional household, where you were born, and the circumstances you were born into, and the misconception that money and wealth buy happiness; if it did, you wouldn’t see so much drug and alcohol abuse, suicides, crime, and broken relationships in the families who have wealth or the children that despise those who have wealth and fame.
In today’s world of technology and instantaneous information, there are pros and cons, e.g., online bullying in teens and school-age children. Also, Social Anxiety of those who were deeply affected by COVID-19, many of whom were just discovering more about today.
How many movie stars, comedians, public figures, politicians, and the like would fit the above bill? For example, the late Robin Williams – “Who spoke movingly about the quiet, heavy pain behind making people laugh, and famously urged those who are struggling to reach out and seek help. He added, ” Suicide is a permanent solution to temporary problems.”
So, remember this during the different holiday celebrations throughout the year, as they are times when those suffering feel it most. Just because it has “Happy or Merry” in front of the day doesn’t mean it is that way for everyone. Below are some quotes from the late Robin Williams who struggled with depression most of his life.
On Recognizing the Struggle: “Just because somebody looks or acts happy, doesn’t always mean that they are happy.”
On Feeling Alone: “The worst thing in life is not to end up all alone. NO! the worst thing in life is to end up with people who make you feel alone.”
