Several come to mind, e.g., “An apple a day keeps the doctor away,” which has been completely debunked by science and modern medicine.
A penny saved is a penny earned – This doesn’t make sense, especially in today’s world, on several levels of saving, interest, depreciation, and hoarding coins that lose their purchasing power. Not to mention, they are considering doing away with the penny altogether.
A woman’s place is in the home. – This is as ridiculous and complacent today as it was for how long it took women to have the right to vote. It was ridiculous then as it is now.
Seeing is believing – Anyone who believes in faith can tell you this isn’t true. Just because you can’t see the wind, you can still feel it and follow its movements, even with your eyes closed. I suggest that you open them.
