(John 3:16) – Be Thankful, Grateful, Understanding, Patient, Charitable and Kine and Smile as it is infectious! God Bless America: Protect Our President, 1st Responders and Military!
As I read this it reminded me of several songs that hold a special place in the recesses of my mind. I shared this prompt with my wife. Hers came out immediately, Moon River, sung by Andy Williams.
Her mom battled cancer from 6th grade through mid-eighth grade. She would pass on the day after New Years, 1970. She was 13 and for her and her two older siblings it was a very traumatic time.
My thoughts went to my father and mother both equally. My dad had a stroke right before my 2nd birthday in February of 1958. It was a real struggle not only for him to survive which was miraculous in itself. My mom, the saint that she is, was 2 months pregnant with my kid sister who would be the youngest of their brood of seven.
With that as a background my father after his recovery helped my mom get work with PTC part of which is now SEPTA. He took over managing the house without complaint. I can still see him dragging and dropping his left leg and his left arm permanently in a bent position.
Though he had minimal use of his left-hand fingers it didn’t stop him from washing, drying, folding the numerous loads of laundry and the many other household chores and DIY projects. I can still hear him singing, Ramblin Rose or Vaya Con Dios sung by none other than Nat King Cole, as he moved about the house.
My mother would always sing, A Shanty in Old Shanty Town sung by the Mills Brothers.
My wife and I adopted the song, That Sunday that Summer, sung by Nat King Cole. However, only a handful of people know that at our modest wedding and reception held in her parents’ house our band members played on guitar what would become our wedding song then, Rocky Rackoon, by the Beatles. Mostly due to the line….”She and her man, who called himself, Dan, where in the next room at the hoedown.”
Well, that’s our nostalgic song stories what’s yours?
