The day I asked my wife’s father for her hand in marriage, and he gave me his full blessing. We got engaged later that same month for her 18th birthday. My wife’s father as stated in previous post was a tank sergeant under General George Patton and saw action in both African and European theaters. His battalion was awarded 5 battle stars including the Battle of the Bulge.
He liked me, and our fathers respected each other, as my father was also a Military MP Sgt. at an anti-aircraft artillery base and a prisoner-of-war camp in Bangor, Maine. Though my dad was stationed stateside when the war broke out, and her dad enlisted the week of December 7, 1941, when Pearl Harbor was bombed.
Our family’s inn her mother’s side shared many interests and history of living through the Great Depression, and both were from South Philly.
