John 3:16 – Be thankful, grateful, patient, charitable, kind, and smile, as it is infectious. God Bless America; protect our president and the military!
It may not be a big deal to many, but when I was a 6-year-old kid in the summer of 62, I remember walking outside early in the morning and noticing the trashmen had already come. I went to carry them back, and when I lifted the first of the two cans, two one-dollar bills were lying beside it. When I looked at the other, it had a dollar and some change, mostly silver dimes and quarters, scattered about the can’s base. To a kid in 1962, it was like hitting the lottery. (Read On)…
Keep in mind that this was a pretty big deal to a kid in 1962 as the large candy bars of today or a soft pretzel were only a nickel then, a bottle of soda, water ice and soft serve ice cream cone (Mr. Softee or Jolly Roger in my neighborhood) was only a dime and most didn’t charge an extra nickel for sprinkles then. An Ice Cream Sundae was a quarter, and a milkshake or malted shake was thirty cents, with a Banana Boat/Split about fifty cents.
Other notable prices for a kid were a single slice of pizza with a small soda for .25 cents, as was a hamburger with French fries, and a whole pizza about a dollar, with toppings about $1.50. You could play a song on the jukebox for a nickel or get three plays for a dime. An afternoon matinee movie ticket for children was 15 to 35 cents and about .82 cents to $1 for adults.
What was the best thing you randomly found on the street? Below are two pictures: the one with the kid and the trash cans is AI-generated, and the other is my 1st-grade picture at MBS.
