Daily Prompt: Describe one positive change you have made in your life. 4/8/26

Be thankful, grateful, patient, charitable, kind, and don’t forget to smile, as it is infectious. God Bless America and Protect Our Military

The one major thing was when I quit smoking, cold turkey, in the blizzard of 1996, after experiencing a myocardial infarction, which in itself was the catalyst for several changes in personality and eating habits.

I learned pretty much to try not to sweat the small stuff. Okay, Hon! Stop laughing!

Definitely, our eight grandchildren and a move several years ago from a 5-bedroom, three-story home to a ranch were positive changes at this stage of life. Oh! I almost forgot we now have two grand dogs that have made a positive impact on the family.

I learned to be more aware of what I am eating and how I am eating. I still would like to have a discussion after being diagnosed with Celiac Sprue around 2002 with that now-retired endocrinologist about how this would help me lose and control my weight. In the words of the Grinch…Wrongo! Maybe being diagnosed a short while later with an underactive thyroid didn’t help matters?

The biggest positive change is having worked in the food service industry for 42 years until age 58, when I was approved for Social Security disability. My plan was to retire at age 62, but I was awarded those pension years, and more importantly, our benefit coverage continued for the two years until I went on Medicare. It’s hard to believe that was back in 2014. I will leave the math to you.

The above-mentioned are just some of the positive changes in my/our lives.

My wife and I met in the summer of 72, and we just celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary at a surprise venue thrown by our kids and supported by our grandkids, with our eldest son officiating the renewal of vows. In truth, it was bigger than our original shoestring budget wedding. What can I say? We’ve been blessed!

What was yours?
