Be thankful, grateful, patient, charitable, kind, and don’t forget to smile, as it is infectious. God Bless America and Protect Our Military
Hope everyone had a fantastic Easter!
As a young teen, when Led Zeppelin released Houses of the Holy, based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings/Hobbit. The talk of the day would be whether anyone would someday be capable of bringing all to the big screen and doing the books justice. Enter Peter Jackson, who did the series justice. Thanks to CGI Technology, they couldn’t have cast the actors better than I would have.
Other notable authors of books and poems, while focusing on literature, include Dickens, Moore, Martin, Irving, Rowling, Puzo, Gabaldon, Milne, Seuss, Jordan, Lee, Frost, Longfellow, and Poe, to name just a few.
At the top of the list for me would be A Christmas Carol, A Visit from St. Nicholas, Charlotte’s Web, Winnie-the-Pooh Series, Cat in the Hat, and so many other classics read to ourselves, our children, and grandchildren. I would certainly add the Harry Potter series. Though this is certainly not a college-level literary list, you could admit they certainly made an impact on society.
On a personal note, I am a published author of three books. The processes of reading, proofreading, illustrating, and editing—repeatedly—are essential parts of publishing. And let’s not even delve into the marketing and advertising, which represent the legwork or business side of things.
Below are the titles of my three published works, two of which are still in print. To be fair, my first book is a holiday story set in Philadelphia. Initially written as a family holiday tale. I remember the day in my writing room, the look, and their responses to hearing it for the first time. They loved it so much and encouraged me to publish and share it with others. Since its publication in 2014, it has gained recognition and has been purchased in numerous countries in one format or another.
The other was just released this Fall and is a family legacy piece with a holiday twist that I started writing years ago. A remembrance piece that hopefully they can share with their grandchildren. It offers insight into what the holidays are like in and around our community and how they relate to our family traditions. The story is intertwined almost like a Hallmark or made-for-television holiday script. I gave my children and grandchildren each their own personalized copy with a message from yours truly!
So, what would be some of your favorite books or authors? Also, in having a little literary fun in a movie you watched a hundred times or more, who wrote the story of It’s a Wonderful Life? I can hear the scrambling for phones or the clicking of the keys on the keyboard now!
