Have a Fantastic Day! Be grateful, be productive, learn something new, remember to smile, and be kind—GO! E-A-G-L-E-S beat the Packers
Hmm! We like to pick a day, as we did with our kids when they were younger, and also our 6 eldest grandkids, and take the train downtown into Philadelphia during the holidays. This year, we hope to do the same with at least our two youngest grandchildren.
The first stop is the Comcast building to see the Holiday Extravaganza. We walk from there through the Christkindl Market onto Dilworth Plaza to see the ice skaters and the large Christmas Tree at City Hall. Passing under the arches into the North side entrance to the City Hall courtyard, where there are more vendors, a painted carousel, and other things that delight.
Afterwards, we trek over to Macy’s, timing our holiday excursion to see the Dickens Village and the Holiday Light Show. Next stop is either the Hard Rock Cafe or the Reading Terminal for a bite to eat; this is a bit different from when I was a kid, when our parents, in the same tradition as with my siblings, took us to the H & H Automat (Horn & Hardart’s).
Then it’s on to the trains set up in the SEPTA concourse—if they still do it — before taking the train back to our waiting car for the ride home with new shared experiences and memories. This tradition is one we look forward to doing every holiday season, which, I might add, inspired me to publish my Philadelphia Holiday Story – A Glimpse from Christmas Past back in 2013.
It is now available at most online bookstores and in 20+ countries, bringing joy to many families worldwide. Please write and Post a review! Available in Book, E*read, and Audio.
