Oh! Definitely more circus animals and clowns! APRIL FOOLS!
On a more serious note, we love where we live in our little corner piece of heaven here in Broomall. The neighborhood, neighbors and the surrounding community is pretty awesome; ACCEPT (notice how I didn’t use the word BUT). We live in an area with some pretty good-sized hills, and it seems every parent is hell bent on not having their kids, not get the exercise (as in our day and most likely their day too) and buy their young grade school children motorized bikes and scooters.
Now I am not a prude to things in our day such as mini-bikes, go-carts riding my bike without a helmet and the like; BUT eight out of ten cars blow through the STOP sign at our corner, most don’t even slow down. The police when they do ticket will yell as they stop what seems every other car, “This is the worse corner in all of Broomall!” We know”!
My and my neighbors’ problems are not with the police who do a fantastic job but more with the parents not monitoring what these kids are doing. Unfortunately, a young man in our area died last year. Our hearts, prayers and condolences go out to their parents and grandparents. I know the county is trying to enforce stricter measures, but parents could be proactive in this. If it has a motor they need to stop at stop signs, slowdown at corners anyway and not trust drivers doing what they are supposed to do.
This past week we had three kids fly by our corner coming downhill way to fast through the stop sign doing about 20 miles an hour. In their defense they had helmets on but at that speed they would be seriously injured or dead in the event something unfortunate happened. I say this as shortly after they passed, I heard screeching of the brakes which to us and our neighbors we feel are, two near misses!
In closing this is Easter Week not that it makes a difference to many as a lot of kids and parents are more apt to celebrate the Easter Bunny and the candy they receive than celebrating Jesus Victory over death in the Resurrection. Something none of us want to celebrate too early in life that meeting! So, if your child or children have these motorized bikes and scooters maybe sit them down and go over rules of road safety. We all know that in traffic safety cars and scooters don’t mix well. Your call just some friendly advice. Your friendly, father of four, grandparent of eight neighbor. You and your family have a – Safe, Healthy and Happy Easter this coming Sunday!
