I always entertained the idea of taking 6 or so weeks to go the 3,058 miles, at roughly 3 to 4 hours driving a day, allowing time to stop at points of interest along the way. We start out driving across the USA, taking the Historic Route 66 or Hwy 50 to the US-101, the scenic Pacific Coast Highway North. Take that to The Great Northern Road US-2 Route. Then, from there, find the best route to the Oregon Trail (US-20), heading East. towards Boston before heading home through the Catskills or Adirondack Mountains. The last leg of our journey will stop and spend an extended week to see our son in NYC. We would cover many of the sites we have yet to see in this great big country of ours.

This trip will offer a variety of historic World Heritage sites and much more. Some of the highlights include the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and the scenic Pacific Coast leading to Oregon. We will explore numerous beaches, charming bistros, and towns as we wind our way from California to Oregon along the wine trails.

Our journey will take us to remarkable stops such as the Giant Redwoods and Sequoia National Park, and we’ll traverse the Great Northern Road to the Oregon Trail (US-20). Along the way, we’ll immerse ourselves in local traditions, history, sights, sounds, and foods. We will also experience World Heritage landmarks such as Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon, all before making our way East to our final destination and heading back home to good old Pennsylvania.
