Prompt: What is your favorite thing to cook? 1/31/26 Well, did January fly by or what? With all the snow, we hardly had time to look up from our shovels. More the reason to…

Live the year with thankfulness, gratitude, respect, patience, charity, and kindness; don’t forget to laugh and smile often, as they are infectious.

Breakfast – Bacon or Sausage, Over-Easy “Dippy” Eggs, and sautéed parboiled red bliss potatoes, seasoned lightly with just salt & pepper. Maybe a touch of onion powder.

Lunch – Egg Cheese on buttered toast with a bowl of your favorite soup. Usually, my wife’s homemade beef or chicken and vegetables.

Dinner – Rump roast cooked medium rare, mashed potatoes, sauteed mushrooms with asparagus or green beans, almondine

Dessert – Baked egg custard with toasted coconut or a vanilla layer cake with buttercream icing (or my wife’s mother’s, Double Chocolate Fudge cake with whipped or buttercream icing and a tall glass of cold milk.

My wife and I have hosted many holidays, birthdays, graduations, special occasions, and BBQs over our 50 years of marriage. She has shown our children a few things over the years, and they are all great cooks. Also, our grandchildren have shown great interest in learning and are now getting in on the act. They love cooking with their Mimi and learning new recipes, especially desserts, meatball and pasta dishes.

So, what are your favorite breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert if you have one to bake or cook?

Point to Ponder: Some folks say they can’t cook or bake. If you can read and follow the simplest step-by-step directions, let me tell you that you, too, can cook! Bring up any dish you like and start with that. Then, on your phone, type or speak into the microphone and say, e.g., “Hey! Google or Alexis, show me the best recipes for baking a rump roast medium rare! Or Martha Stewart’s, Epicurious, or All Recipes.com – Best recipe(s) for any meat, fish, crustacean, cake, pie, dish, bread, rolls, etc.” Magically, the recipe will appear. Just look for the one with the most and best reviews. Voi-la, you’ll be a fine cook in no time. I can see you perusing the cookware sections at your favorite stores now for the best pots, pans, baking dishes, utensils, wines, spices, and the things that hold them. Bon Appetit’
