Prompt: Write about a few of your family traditions. 1/24/26

Live the year with thankfulness, gratitude, respect, patience, charity, and kindness; don’t forget to laugh and smile often, as they are infectious.

Before I get into answering today’s prompt, I would like to note that 50 years ago today, I married my High School Sweetheart. Happy Anniversary to my beautiful, phenomenal mother, grandmother, and amazing homemaker wife, Nancy, from the luckiest man alive! The only difference between that day and this was the unusually warm weather in 1976, compared to the frigid temperatures and the coming blizzard this weekend.

Our children and grandchildren threw us a surprise wedding renewal celebration two weeks ago on a rainy Saturday night at Kings Mill in Aston. It was quite an evening shared with a 100-plus family and friends. It was certainly an evening to remember, with our eldest son leading the vow renewal service and everyone pitching in to make a perfect surprise catered affair, complete with decorations, favors, and even a wedding gown wrap and flowers for my wife. Needless to say, we were full of love and pride in our family for truly making this a special night we think everyone will remember, as we laughed and danced the night away.

Family Traditions over the years are shared on most holidays and birthdays for our children and grandchildren, usually here at Mimi and Pop-Pops. Other traditions are the 4th of July at our daughter’s house, or to highlight just one thing, everyone coming to the house for homemade eggnog after we get in from church on Christmas Eve. Birthday dinners are the celebrant’s choice of the meal, but everyone pitches in to make it special and do their part. Some pics from then and now below, and a shot of the eggnog punch bowl!

What makes any tradition in our house is that we make them together as a family. The family that plays together stays together – to laugh, break bread, sing, dance, and keep that unbreakable bond that all families should have. Share one of your family traditions.
