Have a fantastic day and be: Thankful, Grateful, Patient, Charitable, Kind, and smile as it is infectious!
First Days of every step in life are filled with a bit of everything in the spice cabinet of emotions – Trepidation, Anxiety, Excitement, Nervousness, Fear, Joy, and a host of other things regarding – Dress, Grooming, Personality, etc…
First Day of School, I remember like yesterday – I was in the morning kindergarten class, and my older brother stood with me in the school yard until the last bell. The school was the largest Catholic Grade School in the Country (Most Blessed Sacrament in SW Philly, aka MBS) with 3700 kids.
I started at Acme Markets as a Sophomore in High School in 1972 at 43rd and Locust in West Philadelphia. It was an experience from the neighborhood, friends I would make, and learning the business from the ground up. I would work most days, taking the SEPTA trolley from Drexel Hill to 69th Street and timing it to catch the infamous ‘D’ Bus, then reversing it to get home at 9-9:15 at night. The Blue Laws were still in effect, so Mon-Thru Fri I’d work 5-9, an 8-hour shift; Sat. everything closed at 6pm. A few years later, the Blue Laws were overturned, and you could get no more than a 4-6-hour shift on Sunday, if you were lucky, since it had previously paid triple time.
Obviously, the excitement of a first kiss and the awkwardness of your first intimate encounter where you bare your soul with a significant other.
Becoming a husband and becoming a parent are two of life’s greatest joys and pleasures. That’s my story, and I am sticking to it almost 50 years later. Anyone who had the fortune of sitting in the Labor/Operating Room when your wife is giving birth to your children had witnessed a miracle in action. So, if you are fortunate to have the opportunity to experience life in action and come away not believing in God and against abortion, I certainly can’t help you.
My wife and I have four grown children and eight grandchildren. We have been truly blessed in life on all counts. I could mention your first Kiss, Car, and Home, but those things, though important, take a back seat to the above.
