Daily Prompt: If you didn’t sleep, what would you do with all the extra time? 11/19/25

Good morning and Happy Hump Day! Wake up grateful, thankful, charitable, and kind, and don’t forget to smile, it’s contagious!

Personally, it would give me more time to love, spend time with family, write, read, learn, play my guitar, and maybe take a lesson or two on keyboards, visit, volunteer, travel, exercise, or take a quiet walk lost in my thoughts just contemplating those same things and feeling blessed to be alive and able to take in all in each day! As we get older, we become less focused on creating a life for ourselves and our families and more focused on just having the opportunity to enjoy each other from sunrise to sunset.

Point to Ponder: Yeah, sometimes it takes a lifetime to learn what I am about to share, which will enlighten and remind us of what is really important, especially as we approach the holiday season. In our busy lives with careers, family, raising kids, and juggling work schedules, there never seems to be enough time in the day. Then, as we get older on the back end of life, it looks like we have nothing but time. Time waits for no man!

It strikes you as the kids grow older, marry, go off to school, or move out to start their own lives, and the grandchildren left after a family dinner or holiday. You begin to comprehend if you’re fortunate enough to be with each other, though much older and with less enthusiasm, or should I say, health and energy. You realize in those moments that the house you call home will someday be someone else’s memories, and the things that held so much weight and brought so much joy along the way will, hopefully, be cherished by someone else.

The truth is that most of those things become just “Stuff” collected along the way. Once you or your partner is gone, each piece of bric-a-brac, the China, collectables, furniture, and the like serves as a reminder that the joy of collecting each thing was in the act of doing it in our time spent together. We never know who will want or even care about the story behind the when, where, and time of each of those things. Some will be cherished in your memories, but someday, those things, like us, inevitably will find a different resting place of their own. My advice is to live for today, in retirement have a plan, and learn to enjoy the time you have, as in seconds, minutes, hours, days, and years, none of it is guaranteed, and only time can tell. Carpe Diem! (Seize the Day!)

On a happier note, and only during the Holiday Season, I wrote and published two Philadelphia Holiday stories, and I think your family and friends will enjoy them for years to come. Please consider purchasing the book, e*read, or the Christmas story on Audible. Also, PLEASE don’t forget to write and post a review. 1. I would spend more quality time reading and understanding the bible.
