My wife and I have always shared the same outlook on home affordability, excellent schools, and great neighbors. Each home we’ve lived in at various stages of our lives has left us with lasting friends and memories.
House #1 – Ellendale Road, Drexel Hill, for 14 years from 1977 to 1991. We were 21 and it was a lively street of sixty well-kept twins, a place we look back on fondly. It’s a place where we raised our four children, from ages 10, 13, 14, and 15, when we moved. In that time, our youngest three children were born. Over the years, we have formed lasting friendships that have endured throughout our lives, to this day. We celebrated block parties on the 4th of July, Labor Day, Halloween Hayrides, Christmas Tree Farm outings, and Easter Egg hunts.
House #2 – 928 Cornell Avenue, Drexel Hill, was our home from 1991 until 2018. It was a five-bedroom single-family house located on a street lined with 20 well-maintained homes. The neighborhood was a bit quieter and more reserved, but the neighbors were generally friendly, though they tended to keep to themselves. This reminded me of when our neighbors from Southwest Philadelphia would ask my parents about our move to Drexel Hill just before I entered 8th grade. They would say, “We have a lot of friendly neighbors, the kind who say hello in the morning and good evening at night.”
Our home was a gathering place for family and friends who loved to visit, thanks to its nice yard and charming old-fashioned woodwork details in the Tudor-style architecture. It was a place where our children grew up, graduated from school, and eventually moved on with their own lives. It also became a favorite spot for many of our six older grandchildren to visit. It was also a place of all the shared joys, picture moments and memories of proms, graduations, weddings, grandchildren and the memories every season holds. Unfortunately, it was a place where many of our relatives and older family members and even some friend passed.
House #3 is located in the Langford Hills section of Broomall, where we have lived since 2018. My wife, who was born in Drexel Hill, grew up near our first home, where we also got married. Moving from our previous house had its challenges; we left behind over 26 years of memories in that five-bedroom single to our current corner rancher. However, this marks my wife’s first home outside of Drexel Hill, a place she has always considered her home. She has come to love this house, neighbors, parish, and neighborhood as well as its close proximity to major access roads. She also recognizes that it is more suitable for our lives at this stage of our lives.
This is the largest property we’ve ever owned, offering ample outdoor space along with a spacious private driveway. The house accommodates our needs as we age, providing ample room for family gatherings, parties, holidays, barbecues, and other celebrations.
