“Come Right Into the general store as we’ve got candy, popcorn, and so much more”! 8/22/25

Daily writing prompt
What TV shows did you watch as a kid?

The above was the opening to Gene London. Anyone who knows me knows that…”I am what I am!” Hmm! Just realized the biblical connotation to that line. Below is my elementary selection of things watched.

Regular T.V. : Uncle Pete, Howdy Doody, Dudley Doright, Felix the Cat, Davey and Goliath, Pix Anne, Sally Starr -Popeye, Looney Toons, Gene London, Top Cat, Soupy Sales, Hercules, Davey Crockett, Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Wood the Wood pecker, Wally Gator, Courageous Kat and Minute Mouse, Krazy Kat, Batman, Tobor the 8 man, Astro Boy, Clutch Cargo, The Phantom, Tarzan, Zorro, Have Gun Will Travel, The Rifleman, The Lone Ranger, The Virginian, The Rebel, Dark Shadows, Branded, F-Troop, McHales Navy, Gilligan’s Island, Wagon Train, Bonanza, Superman, Star Trek, Capt. Kangaroo, Gladiator Theatre, Green Hornet, Outer Limits, Night Gallery, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Batman, Leave It to Beaver, Walt Disney, Honeymooners, Dennis the Menace, Ed Sullivan, Bandstand, Soul Train, Jerry Blavat, and I am probably forgetting a few.

Variety Shows: Laugh-In, Smothers Brothers, Johnny Carson, Steve Allen, Red Skeleton, Jackie Gleason, Sonny & Cher, The Andy Williams Show, Don Ameche Circus, The Muppet Show, The Gong Show, Password, What’s My Line, The Jokers Wild etc…

Holiday Related Shows: Bing Crosby, Perry Como, The Osmonds, Andy Williams, The Carpenters, The Grinch, Bell Telephone Presents Twas the Night Before Christmas, Rudolph, Year without Santa Claus, Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol – Pretty much anything and anyone’s holiday related shows we watched.

Point to Ponder: Yes! We only had 4 televisions, stations, and three, excluding channel 12. CBS, ABC, and NBC, or 3,6, and 10, hosted a wide variety of shows. Channel 12 was the other, which became more popular later with the likes of Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, Nove, Earth etc…
