Mornings, as it speaks of new possibilities! 8/21/25

Daily writing prompt
What’s your favorite time of day?

** Special Note – Yesterday, my family would’ve celebrated my mother’s 105th birthday. Happy Heavenly Birthday, Mom! We miss you very much **

Morning’s of Spring: Early rains bring a spark of new beginnings after a long, cold winter. Trees sprout new leaves, and flowers like crocuses herald the season’s arrival. As spring progresses, we can expect an assortment of colors and varieties as the weather warms, racing past Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, and Memorial Day. Memorial Day marks the official start of summer, celebrated by children taking class trips and looking forward to the end of the school year. This marks the open season for summer vacations, baseball, swim clubs or pools opening, vacations, parades, fireworks, water fights, and BBQs where dads take on more cooking responsibilities, grill side.

Morning’s of Summer: Cooler and more welcoming unless sitting poolside or at the beach. Sommer Rain as it feeds the garden, sustaining it throughout the hot summer day. The excitement of belly surfing the waves, baseball and other neighborhood games, riding bikes, swimming at the pool, and social gatherings with family and friends

Morning’s of Fall: TMornings of Fall: The fresh, earthy smell of fall fills the air as warm days give way to cooler nights, creating a beautiful kaleidoscope of colors from the leaves that decorate yards, roofs, sidewalks, and roadways. While this produces some extra work for adults, it brings joy to the kid in all of us, reminding us of leaf fights, jumping into piles of leaves, and the nostalgic scent that used to permeate the neighborhoods when leaves were burned.

Fall also marks the beginning of a new school year—a time for learning new material, meeting new friends, and cheering on local football, soccer, basketball, or hockey teams. There are endless possibilities ahead, from costumes and trick-or-treaters to giving thanks and embracing the holiday season.

As Halloween approaches, it touches all the senses with home decorations like corn stalks, pumpkins, ghosts, and goblins that fill our surroundings. The season culminated in a delightful array of face painting, hayrides, pumpkin picking, candies, cakes, pies, and caramel or candy apples. This festive atmosphere leads us into the exciting prospects of Santa Claus, elves, and the twinkling lights, sights, and sounds that celebrate the birth of our Lord on Christmas Day, which heralds the coming New Year!

Mornings of Winter: Heralded in on New Year’s Eve, winter brings a crispness to the air, ushering in cold, blustery days filled with either sunshine or snow. These winter days offer their own quiet stillness and beauty. It’s the season for wearing hats and gloves, long-sleeved shirts—both dress and flannel—and enjoying gatherings around outdoor fire pits or in hot tubs after a day of skiing, tubing, or sledding.

Quiet moments are spent reading by the fireplace, and just as the summer birds fly south, we welcome winter birds escaping the harshness of colder climates. The tranquility of waking up to an early morning snowfall is often met with dread by those heading off to work, but for kids, it brings the joy of a potential snow day off from school.

The beauty of trees blanketed in white after a snowfall, sparkling like diamonds when the sun shines through, is a sight to behold. Of course, this beauty comes with hard work, as we find ourselves removing those “diamonds” from our cars, walkways, and driveways. However, the promise of a day spent sledding with kids, building snowmen with grandkids, and then coming in to warm up with a nice cup of hot chocolate—complete with mini marshmallows by the fireplace—is truly delightful!

Point to Ponder: You see, it’s all a matter of perspective, no matter what the season, whether or not you’re going to allow yourself to enjoy the moments each presents or dread them. Personally, I look forward to all seasons changing and feel sorry for those who never experience a Fall in all its majesty, Spring in all its beauty, Summer fun, or a good Winter snowfall.
