The Communities of Delaware County, Pa a.k.a. DELCO is a place where we grew up, cheered on our favorite teams, made friends, went to school, met each other, got married, raised a family, coached kids in sports, or watched them play, where our grandchildren were born and raised, a place that’s a true melting pot of the world.
A place you visit for vacation, or where a job or marriage may lead you, but it will always be a part of you. It’s in your blood, spirit, personality, and language, and it fits you as perfectly as your own skin. When moving a few years back, we both decided quite instantly that we didn’t want to even look beyond what we call the DELCO, DMZ of Route 252.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I moved out of the city just before starting 8th grade when my family relocated from Southwest Philadelphia to Drexel Hill. It was in Drexel Hill that I met my wife, who was born and raised there and spent her entire life in the area until our recent move to Marple Newtown. I should also mention, in the words of my late Aunt Jean, that many of our family members are buried in “Two Guys,” also known as St. Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, where we will probably join them someday. I know this might be a touchy subject, but my Irish sense of humor often knows no bounds.
