As a man who makes his own wine, my wife and I usually enjoy dining at BYOB restaurants. This helps us keep costs down since we don’t have to order drinks from the bar, such as after-dinner aperitifs like dessert wines, cognac, brandy, or fancy martinis.
The most expensive meal I can remember was a few years ago when my wife and I went on vacation at the Jersey Shore. We treated our eldest daughter and her oldest son for their birthdays, and we also brought along her other son, who was about to enter his senior year of High School. The total bill, including the tip, was a little over $500. It was definitely worth it, as the meal was expertly prepared and absolutely delicious. The evening created wonderful birthday memories and brought joy to our family members who couldn’t afford such a treat on their own, making it a priceless and fantastic experience.
Our eldest son was hired as a waiter at a Steven Starr restaurant called Alma de Cuba in Philadelphia. For two consecutive years, he treated my wife and me to dinner to celebrate our anniversary. The first year, we dined at Alma de Cuba, exposing us to a whole new world of culinary delights, and it was quite the experience. The following year, he treated us on our anniversary to Buddakan. Our son challenged us to try sushi in the form of rainbow ceviche. This meal was a catalyst that opened my taste buds to enjoying sushi, a love I still have to this day.
Both experiences were excellent and made us feel not only honored but also proud of our son for obtaining a job at such a prestigious restaurant. The food was prepared with high-quality ingredients, e.g., Truffle, Saffron, and the like. We can only imagine how expensive it must have been. Unbeknownst to us, our son made a special trip back to Buddakan on a frigid night to arrange for a high-end bottle of wine to be sent out from the kitchen to complement our meals. We truly enjoyed both experiences and making for two very unforgettable, special Anniversary memories. Thank you, son!
