Left my nickname behind after leaving SW Philly in 1969 7/19/25

Daily writing prompt
What’s the story behind your nickname?

I was never into nicknames, as I found most of those who had them were unflattering, or not something to live down to, at least in my neighborhood.

There were no Dick Tracy euphemisms like Noodles, Mumbles, Prune Face, Flattop, Scarface, Maddog, or even Joey Bag O’Donuts. Now, as an educated man in my late sixties, I choose to distance myself from those who still use nicknames. In my youth, it was entertaining while it lasted, and I’m grateful that those days are long behind me.

I wrote and published a holiday story set in Philadelphia that might leave some of my friends from the street corners scratching their heads. I also wanted to mention the daily blog I’ve been posting over the past several months.
