- It’s not just about the gifts, flowers, candy, and cards that we typically associate with occasions like Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, and Valentine’s Day. While those items can enhance the celebration, what truly matters is your personal presence and the meaningful, eye-to-eye moments shared with each other daily and in those quiet spaces.
- A dinner and a movie, or date night, an unexpected getaway, it doesn’t have to be expensive or exotic e.g., music venue, wine festival, picnic in the park, or a day at the beach
- Letting your partner know by showing affection without expectation
- Acknowledge and reinforce their importance in your life daily with a simple, “I Love You, Thank You, Please, or comment about the time and effort put in to looking good for YOU. Take Notice!
- Listening without distraction, something we all need to work on at times
- Putting each other first before making decisions that involve both of you. You are Team, and there is no “I” in team.
- Don’t assume or take each other for granted. Make your relationship about sharing not only intimacy but everything else in between, e.g.,. Cooking, cleaning, fixing, shopping, buying, bills, building, driving the kids, the Works!
Point to Ponder: Every relationship is unique, but lasting ones tend to share several important qualities. Key elements such as truth, respect, honesty, dignity, common interests, listening, laughter, love, and acceptance become increasingly important as you age. By nurturing these qualities, you enhance your chances of enjoying a long, happy life together, affirming the vows represented by those two powerful words that encompass a lifetime of dreams: “I Do!”
