As a kid, I always thought the actor who portrayed Zorro had a pretty cool stage name: Guy Williams. Although his real name was Armando Joseph Catalano, I will always remember him as Don Diego de la Vega. However, in the 1998 a remake, The Legend of Zorro, which starred Anthony Hopkins, and Antonio Banderas, the character was given the additional name of Alejandro. A name I was always partial too!
That being said, humorously, I had two different waiters at two different restaurants over just a few years ask me if… A) Anyone ever told me I looked like “Fred “Freakin’” Flintstone”; in the words of Buddy the Elf, “Son of a Nutcracker”, or… B) I looked like William Shatner, who, I might add, is 25 years my senior.
Probably thinking more about the tip he would get, the first waiter quickly added that I resembled Shatner in his younger Star Trek days, of which I am a big fan. However, the damage was already done.
For the rest of the night with Guy A, every time he passed by, I exclaimed, “Yabba Dabba Doo!” With Guy B, I kept my wallet close by and would flip it open as if it were a communicator, saying in my best Captain Kirk voice, “Scotty, beam-me-up-more-bread,” or, “Spock, beam-me-up-more-water.” It surely gave the people around us a chuckle and helped me to redeem my damaged ego.
As mentioned earlier, I thought I resembled Guy Williams more, or maybe I was just…Lost in Space.
