Most of us are fortunate if we remain alive in the hearts, minds, and stories of our loved ones for more than a generation or two. However, we can quickly fade into mere whispers of the past, much like old, forgotten memories. Just like old photographs from generations ago that now sit in boxes, waiting for the day we finally go through them—today’s technology offers us a chance to preserve those memories, yet many still remain untouched.
As sons and daughters, we carry the legacy of our parents and grandparents within us. What morals, life lessons, faith, education, confidence, and love have we passed on to them? Did we create a home that nurtured learning and opened their eyes to the possibilities of their God-given gifts, or did we miss those opportunities?
Did we nurture their artistic talents in music, painting, writing, dance, athletics, education, or trade skills? The only individuals who exist outside the bounds of social legacy are those who make a lasting impact beyond the family unit. This includes those who seek to leave their mark in fields like politics, art, music, poetry, and writing. However, only a rare few of them manage to endure with us over time.
Like a great chef, you are judged by each dish you create; a film director is evaluated by every movie they produce; an actor must maintain their appeal to remain relevant; and a singer-songwriter’s work must endure the test of time. We can easily name several influential figures from various genres, including Big Band, Jazz, Doo-Wop, and Rock ‘n’ Roll, as well as poets like Frost, Whitman, Longfellow, Kilmer, and Dickinson. Additionally, we can mention renowned writers such as Dickens, the Brontë sisters, Tolkien, and Martin..
Points to Ponder:Who has left their legacy with you in Science, Invention, Music, Art, Sculpting, Literature, Sports, and so on? The test will be in the history that you remember in your mind, which you will pass on to uphold their legacy.
