This question can be easily associated with New Year’s resolutions, weight loss programs, supplements like estrogen and testosterone boosters, erectile dysfunction medications, hair growth treatments, hair dyes, makeup, liposuction, facelifts, waxing, Botox, and many other similar items. The list goes on and on.
Where do we begin? Let’s keep it simple: eat less and exercise more. Alternatively, I can choose to be happy with the person I see in the mirror every morning. I see someone who is aging gracefully, even if I have gained a few pounds and have more gray hair on my head—although perhaps there’s less of it—and in my beard. I walk a little slower and care less about what others think, all while developing a better sense of humor. At almost 70, I realize that I am not competing or seeking anyone’s approval, except for my wife of over 49 years.
Every day, I pray to improve as a better husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, as well as in the things I enjoy, like writing, winemaking, and especially guitar playing.
