Which way should we go today?

Daily writing prompt
What gives you direction in life?

The straightforward answer might be that my wife guides me. But in all seriousness, life offers direction from the moment you open your eyes. Your perspective for the day starts there. Did you wake up feeling grateful, engaged in quiet prayer or meditation, giving thanks? Did you spend time reflecting without any beliefs weighing you down? When you stepped on the scale, were you pleased with the number or tempted to toss it in the trash? Did you wake up ready to embrace the day with a “bring it on” attitude, or were you dreading it and wanting to hit the snooze button? Did you feel energized and prepared to hit the gym, or did you want to roll over in bed for a little extra sleep?

Consider this thought: Imagine a loved one who is sick or possibly dying. You have a child who has been battling disabilities since childhood. You left the house feeling happy, but then your car wouldn’t start. You have a family, or perhaps you know one, that is facing the challenges of addiction to drugs, alcohol, or other substances.

PAre you doing well on the ladder of success, living a life without worries? Perhaps you drive a nice car, own a beautiful home, can vacation anywhere, and never have to think about what or where you will eat. It sounds like you have a comfortable life.

More importantly, do you remember to pay it forward and help others get a chance at life? Keep in mind that a person’s direction in life often depends on the circumstances of their birth, the life they were born into, and the opportunities they have received.

TThe best direction in life is to be kind, charitable, and understanding. It’s important not to judge others, as everyone’s path is different. Consider the perspective of those who seem to be doing well on the ladder of success: they might drive a nice car, live in a comfortable home, take vacations anywhere, and never worry about what or where they will eat. They might have a relatively easy life.

More importantly, do they remember to pay it forward and give others a chance in life? Direction in life differs based on where you were born, the circumstances you faced, and the opportunities that were presented to you. Ultimately, the best direction in life is to be kind, charitable, and understanding, while striving to avoid judgment, as everyone’s journey is unique.
